Is eating healthy and losing weight part of your New Year’s resolution? Paleo Diet is the way to go.
Paleo diet is becoming more and more popular as many celebrities are following it. Also celebrity chefs are coming up with Paleo recipes and cook books. Also known as the Caveman or Stone Age diet, modern Paleo imitates the hunter-gatherer eating habits of our Paleolithic ancestors. Paleo diet recommends avoiding grains, legumes and some dairy products and is favorable to eating lean meat, poultry, fish, seafood, eggs, fruit, non-starchy vegetables, nuts and seeds.
In general, eating Paleo means eating veggies, fruits, meats, fish, certain fats, nuts, and seeds. And it means removing grains (breads, pastas, rice, etc), beans, soy, dairy, certain vegetable oils, and refined sugar from your diet.
But you probably wonder how hard it is, right?
Not hard- you just need to change your diet to eat less carbohydrates – see useful tips below.
Paleo Diet Tips:
- Replace wheat based carbs with those from whole grain or vegetable origins – so simply replace for example wheat based food such as pasta and breads with wholegrain pasta and breads (the more grains the better). Eat only grains that have high fiber content but not starch such as polenta.
- Eat fresh produce and reduce or eliminate highly processed foods
- Eat vegetables such as cauliflower and sometimes potato instead of rice, noodles and pasta. You will not miss anything by eating more vegetables if you are more creative with the way you cook and prepared vegetables.
- Balance the consumption of meat with with lots of vegetables. Try having red meat only once a week to reduce this risks associated with too mush protein from meat.
Start by changing your eating habits slowly and don’t go into extreme dieting. Be patient and disciplined – it can take six to eight weeks until you feel adapted and comfortable with the new eating habits.
